The Smart Start for School Program was established in 2002. This endeavor provides new backpacks filled with school supplies to more than 600 children. Four Clay County elementary schools; Charles E. Bennett, W.E. Cherry, Grove Park, J.L. Wilkinson and Clay Hill are the selected sites for this outreach. At each school, the Principals and Guidance Counselors select and send invitations to 125 children to receive the backpacks. On a date selected by the Charity and the school, students are invited to come choose a backpack filled with school supplies, shoes, underwear and clothing. This program offers a chance for these underprivileged children to start school with a sense of hope and it gives them the tools needed to have a successful academic year.
